About the Nalambalam Pilgrimage
Nalambalam pilgrimage is a unique spiritual journey involving visits to four revered temples dedicated to Lord Rama and his beloved brothers Lakshmana, Bharatha, and Shatrughna. Traditionally undertaken during the Malayalam month of Karkidakam (July-August), this pilgrimage is believed to bring immense blessings and spiritual solace. The temples are situated in close proximity within the serene landscape of Kottayam, offering devotees a harmonious and unifying experience.Nestled in the serene landscapes of Kottayam’s Ramapuram region, the Nalambalam temples are a harmonious quartet of shrines dedicated to Lord Rama and his brothers Lakshmana, Bharata, and Shatrughna. These four sanctuaries Ramapuram Sree Rama Temple, Koodappulam Sree Lakshmanaswami Temple, Amanakara Bharatha Temple, and Methiri Sree Shatrughna Temple are uniquely situated within a three to four kilometre radius, offering devotees a spiritually enriching pilgrimage accessible within a single day. During the sacred month of Karkidakam (Ramayana Masam), a traditional “Nalambala Darshanam” entails visiting all four temples before the noon puja culminating back at Ramapuram to invoke blessings for prosperity, familial bonds, and relief from life’s challenges. According to legend, Lord Rama and his brothers, en route to Lanka, paused here in meditation leading to the consecration of shrines at their respective sojourns.
