It is believed that the tribals who helped King Pazhassi Raja in his war against the British Empire were gifted this temple by the king in gratitude.

Thalapoli
Thalapoli is a significant ritual performed at the Sree Mariamman Temple in Sultan Bathery, Wayanad, especially during the Mariamman festival. Women and young girls participate in this ritual by carrying decorated plates filled with rice, flowers, and lamps, offering them to Goddess Mariyamman as a symbol of prosperity and devotion. The Thalapoli procession, accompanied by traditional music and dance, adds a vibrant and auspicious atmosphere to the festival celebrations.
