Ekadashi Calendar 2026
Ekadashi 2026 is an important religious observance in the Hindu calendar dedicated primarily to the worship of Lord Vishnu. Observed twice every lunar month, Ekadashi occurs on the eleventh day of both the waxing and waning phases of the moon. Throughout 2026, devotees across India and around the world will observe these auspicious days with deep faith, discipline and devotion.
Ekadashi is regarded as a powerful day for spiritual growth, self control and inner purification. Devotees traditionally observe fasting, which may range from complete abstinence from food and water to partial fasting involving fruits, milk or simple sattvic meals. The practice of fasting is believed to help cleanse the body, calm the mind and strengthen spiritual awareness. Along with fasting, devotees engage in prayers, chanting of Vishnu Sahasranama reading sacred texts like the Bhagavad Gita and participating in temple rituals.
Each Ekadashi in 2026 carries its own spiritual significance and associated legends from Hindu scriptures. Certain Ekadashis are believed to remove past karmic burdens, while others are associated with prosperity, health, peace, and liberation. Special importance is given to Ekadashis such as Nirjala Ekadashi, Devshayani Ekadashi and Mokshada Ekadashi which are observed with greater austerity and devotion.
Temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu, Krishna and related incarnations witness increased footfall on Ekadashi days. Special poojas, bhajans, discourses, and night-long devotional activities are commonly organized. Many devotees also observe the fast with a sense of compassion, charity and self reflection emphasizing moral discipline and spiritual values.
