The annual temple festival held at Karumom Cherukara Sri Ayiravilly Thampuran Temple is one of the most spiritually significant and culturally vibrant celebrations in the region of Thiruvananthapuram. This ancient temple, traditionally believed to have connections with Arjuna of the Mahabharata becomes the center of devotion and community life during the days of the festival.
Devotees from Karumom and surrounding areas gather in large numbers to witness and participate in the sacred rituals, poojas, homams and offerings performed with great reverence.
The festival is marked by early morning temple openings with Nirmalya Darshan, followed by various homams such as Mahaganapathi Homam, Mahamrityunjaya Homam, Mahasudarshana Homam and special poojas dedicated to the presiding deities. Pongala offerings, including Aditya Pongala, Manja Pongala and Nercha Pongala hold special importance and reflect the deep-rooted faith of the devotees. The traditional Vibhava Sadya served during the festival strengthens the spirit of unity and devotion among participants.
