The Kumbha Thiruvathira Mahotsavam 2026 at Vanchiyoor Sree Mahadeva Temple, Trivandrum is one of the most significant and vibrant annual festivals celebrated in Kerala dedicated to Lord Shiva. This festival is observed during the Malayalam month of Kumbham coinciding with the Thiruvathira star, and brings together thousands of devotees from across the region to participate in a series of sacred rituals and cultural events. The afternoons feature Uchcha Pooja and the evenings are marked by the opening of the temple gates for Nadathurakkal, Deeparadhana and other traditional ceremonies.

One of the highlights of the festival is the grand Ezhunnallathu procession, which starts from the Vanchiyoor Sree Krishna Swami Temple and passes through nearby areas featuring elephants adorned with nettipattam, Panchavadyam, Chenda Melam, Nadaswaram and traditional dances like Padayani and Theyyam creating a vibrant display of Kerala’s rich cultural heritage. Alongside the rituals, devotees are invited to participate in Thalappoli, Chamaya Vilakku and other ceremonial offerings and the festival also includes cultural performances, music concerts and community feast. The event is supported by numerous devotees who contribute for poojas, decorations and the construction of the Annadanam Mandapam, reflecting the spirit of devotion and community participation.
