The Prathishta Varshikam & Uthram Mahotsavam at Kottavarampu Sree Bhagavathi Temple is one of the most revered and vibrant celebrations in the region drawing devotees from across Trivandrum and neighboring areas.
This grand festival marks the anniversary of the temple's consecration and is a time of deep devotion, spiritual rejuvenation and cultural celebration. Over the course of several days, the temple comes alive with a series of sacred rituals, traditional ceremonies and community gatherings that reflect the rich heritage of Kerala’s temple traditions.
The festival begins each day with the Palliyunarthal, the ceremonial awakening of the deity followed by Nirmalya Darshanam and Abhishekam where the idol is ritually bathed and adorned.
Devotees participate in special homams such as Ganapathi Homam and Mrityunjaya Homam believed to bring prosperity, health and protection from obstacles. The temple also hosts the Sreechakra Pooja, a spiritually powerful ritual for family welfare, academic success and overall prosperity attracting devotees who wish to seek divine blessings.
In addition to the religious observances, the festival features a variety of cultural programs that celebrate Kerala’s artistic traditions. Folk dances like Kaikottikali and Veeranatyam, devotional music sessions, and dramatic performances are presented by local artists and community groups creating a lively and festive atmosphere. Each day also includes Annadanam, the offering of food to devotees symbolizing the spirit of service and communal harmony.
The festival culminates with the Thalappoli Procession, a vibrant parade of devotees carrying traditional lamps accompanied by music and chants highlighting the temple’s spiritual and social significance.
