Agasthyarkoodam, one of the highest peaks in the Western Ghats, stands at an elevation of 1,868 meters and is located in the Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala. This peak is part of the Agasthyamalai Biosphere Reserve a UNESCO recognized area known for its rich biodiversity including over 337 bird species and more than 2,000 medicinal plants
The trekking season at Agasthyarkoodam opens once a year, typically from mid January to early February offering adventurers and nature enthusiasts a rare opportunity to experience Kerala’s pristine forests, rolling hills and unique flora and fauna.
The trek is considered both an adventure and a spiritual journey, as the peak is associated with Sage Agastya, a revered figure in Hindu mythology. Although there is no formal temple festival at the peak, the trekking season is treated as a pilgrimage by devotees who climb the mountain seeking spiritual fulfillment and the experience of being immersed in nature’s most exclusive wilderness. The trail covers approximately 48–56 km round trip, usually taking 2–3 days depending on the route and pace and requires prior booking through the Kerala Forest Department portal.

A medical certificate from a registered practitioner is mandatory and trekkers are required to follow safety and environmental guidelines.
