Thrikodiyet Mahotsavam is one of the most significant annual festivals celebrated at Kushakkode Sree Mahadevar Temple in Trivandrum.The festival is marked by a series of traditional rituals, elaborate poojas and vibrant cultural programs that reflect the rich heritage and devotion associated with Lord Mahadeva. During this period, the temple conducts special rituals such as Panchamrutha Abhishekam where the deity is bathed with a mixture of five sacred substances, and Chandanabhishekam, the sandalwood paste offering which are believed to purify and bless the devotees. The festival also includes the Thrikodi Pooja and the ceremonial Thrikodiyet which is the flag hoisting that marks the formal commencement of the festivities. Daily poojas, Nagarukal writing and devotional songs and Pushpabhishekam are performed with devotion and grandeur.

Other highlights include the distribution of Unniyappam, Prasadam, Prabhathabhakshanam and Annadanam ensuring that devotees experience both spiritual and communal participation. The festival is also famous for its cultural programs which include traditional music, dance performances and processions. The Pallivetta ritual, special poojas and Aarattu, a ceremonial bathing of the deity in holy waters further enrich the festival experience. Devotees can also witness the elaborate preparation of floats, elephant songs and melams accompanying the grand processions. Devotees must submit a written application to the Temple Festival Committee by 8:00 PM on Monday, February 2, 2026. The festival committee ensures fair allocation of offerings, sometimes through lottery in case of multiple requests and oversees the smooth conduct of all rituals and events. Thrikodiyet Mahotsavam is not only a spiritual event but also a celebration of Kerala’s cultural traditions, offering devotees an opportunity to immerse themselves in devotion, ritual and community participation.
