Thrikkodiyett Shivaratri Mahotsavam 2026 at Sri Rameswaram Mahadevar Temple, Trivandrum is one of the most sacred and vibrant celebrations dedicated to Lord Shiva in Kerala. This annual festival attracts devotees from across the state and beyond offering a unique blend of religious rituals, cultural performances and community participation.
The festival begins with the ceremonial Kodiyettam symbolizing the formal commencement of the celebrations. Devotees witness a variety of sacred homams such as Mahaganapathi Homam and Mrityunjaya Homam, special abhishekams and kalasha poojas performed under the guidance of the temple Tantri. Community offerings known as Annadanam are organized daily providing food to hundreds of devotees and fostering a sense of unity and devotion.
A significant highlight of the Mahotsavam is Thrikkodiyett, the special night rituals on Mahashivarathri which include all-night poojas, cultural performances, devotional singing and dance presentations by renowned local groups. The festival also features Pallivetta, the ceremonial procession of the deity, and concludes with Thiru Aarattu, the holy bath of the deity accompanied by traditional percussion ensembles, Thalappoli and elephants creating a spectacular spiritual and cultural experience.
The festival provides devotees an opportunity to participate in sacred rituals, witness vibrant performances and seek the blessings of Lord Shiva making it an unmissable event in the region. The temple trust encourages all devotees and locals to join in the festivities and contribute to its successful conduct.
