The Shivarathri and Karthika Mahotsavam 2026 at Nagaroor Nandaivanam Mavelikkonam Sri Bhagavati Temple in Trivandrum is a vibrant and spiritually enriching festival that draws devotees from across Kerala and beyond. Celebrated annually with great devotion, this festival spans ten days, beginning on 15th February and concluding on 24th February 2026 coinciding with the auspicious Malayalam month of Kumbham.
The festivities are marked by a unique blend of temple rituals, traditional music, devotional songs, cultural programs and community participation.
Each day of the festival is filled with a series of ceremonial rituals including Abhishekam, Ushapooja and Mahaganapati Homas conducted with meticulous attention to tradition. Devotees participate in Bhagavata Parayanam recitations of sacred texts and offer Annadanam feeding hundreds of visitors as an act of devotion. Special rituals such as Yamapooja, Kaikottikali, and Thookkam are performed with grandeur accompanied by the rhythmic beats of traditional Kerala percussion ensembles like Chenda Melam and Nadaswaram performances.
The temple premises are beautifully decorated, and flower offerings, lamps and elaborate Poomoodal ceremonies add to the visual splendor. During the evenings, cultural programs including classical dance, traditional music and contemporary performances such as comedy and drama are showcased offering entertainment while preserving Kerala’s rich artistic heritage.
A notable feature of this festival is the collaborative involvement of local families, temple branches and devotees who contribute to the offerings and rituals fostering a strong sense of community and devotion. The festival also includes processions with elephants, traditional torch lit ceremonies and Garudan Thookkam creating a captivating spiritual atmosphere.
