Paranettu Mahotsavam is one of the most celebrated annual festivals at Sree Neelakeshi Temple, Trivandrum showcasing a remarkable blend of devotion, tradition and cultural vibrancy. Held over a span of 13 days in March 2026, the festival draws devotees from across Kerala and neighboring states to participate in the spiritual and cultural festivities.
The temple, dedicated to Goddess Neelakeshi becomes a hub of religious fervor where rituals and poojas are performed with meticulous adherence to temple traditions.
The festival commences with early morning prayers and special homams that invoke the blessings of the Goddess. Daily rituals include Prabhatha Pooja, Uchappooja and Sandhya Pooja accompanied by Deepa Aradhana, where rows of oil lamps illuminate the temple premises creating a serene and divine atmosphere. Devotees actively participate in Narayaneeya Parayanam, chanting hymns and offering their prayers fostering a sense of spiritual unity.
Annadanam or the offering of food to devotees is an integral part of the festival reflecting the temple’s commitment to community welfare and hospitality. The festival also features elaborate processions including Ezhunnellippu where the deity is ceremoniously taken out amidst traditional music, drumming and devotional chants.
A highlight of Paranettu Mahotsavam is its rich cultural program, featuring classical music, devotional bhajans and traditional dance performances from local and regional artists. Programs like Saptha Swaralayam, fusion bhajan concerts and mega musical events by renowned artists add vibrancy and grandeur to the festival. Social initiatives such as marriage aid for underprivileged families and welfare programs for senior citizens, are also organized during the festival emphasizing both devotion and community service.
