Punahprathista Varshikam, the annual reinstallation anniversary celebration of Sree Panchami Devi Temple is one of the most important spiritual events observed at this sacred temple in Petta, Thiruvananthapuram. Renowned as Kerala’s first temple dedicated to Varahi Panchami Devi, the temple holds a unique place in the spiritual and cultural landscape of the state. The festival is celebrated with immense devotion and reverence, attracting devotees from various parts of Kerala and beyond.
The temple is blessed with the divine presence of Goddess Durga in her serene form and Varahi Panchami Devi in her powerful and protective form. During the Punahprathista Varshikam celebrations, special rituals and ceremonies are conducted to honor the deities and seek their blessings for prosperity, protection, health and spiritual well-being. The festival serves as an occasion for devotees to renew their faith and participate in sacred worship in a spiritually charged atmosphere.
A variety of traditional temple rituals form the core of the celebrations. These include Maha Ganapathi Homam, Veda Suktha chanting, Kalabha Abhishekam, Kalasa Poojas, Kalasa Abhishekam for the main deities, sub deities and Navagrahas, Sree Bhoothabali, Pushpabhishekam and special poojas at the Bhadrakali shrine. Devotional recitations such as Devi Mahatmyam and Lalitha Sahasranama add further spiritual significance to the festival and create an atmosphere of devotion and divine grace.
Apart from the religious ceremonies, the festival also showcases Kerala’s rich cultural heritage through classical dance performances and traditional art forms presented by renowned institutions.
