Kumbha Thiruvathira Mahotsavam 2026 at Sree Pambanam Durga Devi Kshethram in Trivandrum is one of the most significant and vibrant temple festivals in Kerala attracting devotees from across the region. Celebrated during the auspicious Malayalam month of Kumbham, this three day festival is dedicated to Goddess Durga and is a showcase of Kerala’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage.
The festival begins each day in the early morning with the ceremonial wake up of the temple followed by the opening of the inner courtyard and Nirmalya Darshanam, allowing devotees to receive the sacred offerings from the previous day.
The mornings are filled with elaborate poojas, including Maha Ganapati Homa, Puranaparayanam, Usha Pooja, Kumkuma Abhishekam and Maha Mrityunjaya Homa creating an atmosphere of devotion and spiritual energy. Special community offerings such as Samoohya Pongala, allow devotees to actively participate in the rituals making the festival a deeply engaging experience. Kalasha Pooja and Kalasha Abhishekam are performed with meticulous attention to traditional procedures, while Sopanam music enhances the spiritual ambiance.
Evenings are equally enchanting with Deepa Aradhana, Bhagavati Seva, Thalappoli processions and cultural performances including Thiruvathira and Kaikkottikkali. The festival also features traditional art forms such as Theyyam, Kuthiyottam and Chenda Melam, performed with precision and devotion. Devotees partake in the grand Thirunal Sadya, a traditional feast, adding to the communal and celebratory spirit.
The festival concludes with Koduti Mahotsavam, Manjanirattu, Gurusi Tharpanam and the ceremonial lighting of festival lamps leaving devotees with lasting spiritual memories.
