Thrikkodiyettu Mahotsavam at Palliyara Bhagavati Temple, Trivandrum is one of the most significant and vibrant temple festivals in Kerala. Celebrated with devotion and grandeur, this festival honors Goddess Bhagavati and showcases the deep spiritual and cultural heritage of the region.
Devotees from Trivandrum and neighboring areas flock to the temple to participate in the rituals, witness the processions and immerse themselves in the festive atmosphere.
The festival is marked by a series of sacred rituals, beginning with the ceremonial preparations and traditional poojas performed by the temple priests. Among the most important are the Mudiyate rituals which are elaborate offerings conducted with devotion to invoke the blessings of the Goddess. These rituals are often accompanied by Ashtabandha Kalasam, symbolizing the sanctification of the deity and the temple premises.
A highlight of the Thrikkodiyettu Mahotsavam is the Thalappoli procession where devotees carry decorated lamps and offerings in a rhythmic, colorful parade. The procession is accompanied by Gurusi and Vilakku performances creating an enchanting display of music, lights and devotion. These events not only represent religious fervor but also provide a visual and cultural spectacle that reflects Kerala’s rich temple traditions.
