Kaliyoot Mahotsavam at Palliyara Bhagavati Temple, Trivandrum is one of the most vibrant and culturally rich festivals celebrated in Kerala. Held at the sacred Palliyara Bhagavati Temple, this festival is dedicated to the Goddess Bhagavati and showcases the region’s deep rooted traditions, devotional rituals and artistic heritage.
The festival is a grand spectacle that attracts devotees from across Trivandrum and neighboring districts, who come to offer prayers witness the rituals and participate in the spiritual celebrations.
The highlight of the Kaliyoot Mahotsavam is the series of elaborate temple rituals which are performed with utmost devotion and precision. These include various Mudiyate ceremonies, Ashtabandha Kalasam and other auspicious offerings that are believed to invoke the blessings of the Goddess and ensure prosperity, health and protection for the devotees.
The festival is also known for its Thalappoli procession where devotees carry traditional lamps and offerings in a vibrant, rhythmic procession around the temple premises. The procession is accompanied by Gurusi and Vilakku performances adding a unique blend of devotion and visual grandeur to the celebration.
The temple premises during the festival come alive with colors, lights and the sounds of traditional instruments creating an atmosphere of pure devotion and festivity.
