Prathishta Varshikam and Nercha Kavadi Ghoshayatra at Sri Subramanya Swamy Temple, Plamoottukada is one of the most spiritually significant annual celebrations observed with great devotion and enthusiasm by devotees of Lord Subramanya. The festival commemorates the consecration anniversary of the temple and serves as a sacred occasion for devotees to express their gratitude, seek divine blessings and participate in various traditional rituals dedicated to the presiding deity.
The festival is marked by a series of special poojas and religious ceremonies conducted in accordance with temple traditions under the guidance of the temple thantri and priests. Devotees gather in large numbers to take part in Maha Ganapathi Homam, Navakam, Panchagavya Pooja, Abhishekams, Shashti Pooja, Deeparadhana and other sacred offerings. These rituals create a spiritually uplifting atmosphere and provide devotees with an opportunity to strengthen their faith and devotion to Lord Subramanya.
A major highlight of the celebration is the grand Nercha Kavadi Ghoshayatra. Devotees undertake Kavadi offerings as an act of devotion, thanksgiving and fulfillment of vows made to the deity. The colorful procession, accompanied by traditional temple art forms, devotional music, Panchavadyam, Chenda Melam and other cultural performances moves through the surrounding areas before reaching the temple premises. The sacred procession symbolizes devotion, discipline and surrender to the divine and attracts devotees and spectators alike.
The festival also features devotional music programs, bhajans, cultural gatherings and community activities that bring together people from different walks of life in a spirit of harmony and faith.
