Meenamāsa Nāgarūṭu at Padinjattumukku Sree Nagarkavu Temple, Trivandrum is one of the most revered and spiritually significant festivals celebrated in Kerala dedicated to the serpent deities worshipped at the temple.
This festival is an important part of the temple’s annual calendar and attracts devotees from all over the region who come to seek blessings for prosperity, health and protection from negative energies. The festival is deeply rooted in the traditional rituals and customs of Kerala reflecting the rich cultural heritage of the state.
The central highlight of the Nāgarūṭu festival is the performance of Aayilyam rituals which involve special offerings to the serpent gods. Devotees participate with devotion presenting Aayilyam offerings, Oottu and Oil offerings which are considered highly auspicious and believed to bring spiritual merit. The festival also features Kanji Sadhya, a traditional ceremonial meal served to devotees and Pulluvan Pattu, a unique form of serpent themed devotional music accompanied by ritualistic instruments creating a deeply spiritual atmosphere throughout the temple premises.
In addition to the main rituals, the festival includes Aayilya Pooja offerings by local devotees and community members symbolizing gratitude, devotion and the harmonious relationship between humans and nature.
