Murajapam Lakshadeepam 2025-26 Trivandrum Kerala The term Murajapam comes from mura, meaning repetition, and japam, meaning chanting. During this ritual, Vedic scholars chant the Rig, Yajur, and Sama Vedas continuously in cycles for 56 days. The chanting is believed to purify the surroundings and invoke divine blessings for peace, prosperity, and the well-being of the community. Lakshadeepam, meaning “one lakh lamps”, marks the grand finale of the 56-day observance. On this day, the entire temple complex—including its corridors, gopurams, and shrine walls—is illuminated with 100,000 oil lamps, creating a breathtaking and spiritually charged atmosphere. Devotees throng the temple to witness the deity Sree Padmanabha Swamy in a majestic procession, accompanied by traditional music and rituals.
