The 1st Prathishta Varshikam and Meda Atham Mahotsavam at Perunguzhi Varuvilakam Sree Bhadrakali Temple, Trivandrum is a spiritually significant and culturally vibrant celebration marking an important milestone in the temple’s sacred history. This annual festival is dedicated to Goddess Bhadrakali, the fierce and compassionate form of the Divine Mother, worshipped for protection, prosperity, and the removal of obstacles in devotees’ lives.
The festival brings together devotees from Perunguzhi and surrounding regions in a deeply devotional atmosphere filled with traditional rituals, Vedic homams and elaborate poojas. Sacred ceremonies such as Ganapathi Homam, Mrityunjaya Homam, Kalasha Pooja and Bhagavathi Seva are performed with utmost devotion by learned priests, invoking divine blessings for peace, health and spiritual upliftment.
One of the key highlights of the celebration is the community participation where devotees contribute offerings such as annadanam (community feast), rice offerings, oil offerings and sponsorships for various poojas. The temple premises transform into a vibrant center of devotion, with the rhythmic sounds of traditional percussion instruments, devotional chants and lamp lit rituals creating a powerful spiritual ambiance.
Cultural programs and traditional art forms also play an important role in the festival showcasing Kerala’s rich heritage and devotion to the Goddess. Special poojas for sub deities, ceremonial lamp lighting and procession rituals further enhance the sacredness of the occasion.
