It is one of the famous Ayyappa temples in Trivandrum district. This temple is about more than 300 year old history. This is one of the rarest temples in Kerala, where deity faces towards west direction. Annual festival of this temple falls on December/January (Malayalam month of Dhanu) and is conducted to increase the vigour of the deity. Pongala of this temple as part of the annual festival is very famous.

There are special poojas and offerings during the festival period. Traditional performing arts and music and dance are staged during the period. Numerous cultural programs and temple arts are performed on all days of the festival. There are a lot of cultural events and religious discourses. On the final day there is Pongala, a ritual where thousands of women participants offer a porridge made of rice, sweet brown molasses, coconut gratings, nuts and raisins. Rice, coconut and jaggery along with round earthen pots are brought by women devotees for cooking.The Chief Priest lights the main hearth from the divine fire inside the sanctum sanctorum. This fire is exchanged from one to the other.
