The Utsavam at Kilimaanoor Kottaram Ayyappankavu is a grand and vibrant celebration dedicated to Lord Ayyappa reflecting the rich spiritual and cultural heritage of Kerala. This festival held annually transforms the temple and its surroundings into a hub of devotion, tradition and artistic expression.
Devotees from near and far gather to participate in the sacred rituals making it a significant spiritual event in the region.
The festival begins with the Kodiyettam marking the official commencement of the festivities. This is followed by a series of daily poojas and traditional rituals conducted under the guidance of the temple’s chief priests. Each day of the Utsavam is filled with a carefully organized schedule of worship offering devotees the opportunity to seek blessings and participate in various religious ceremonies.
Pallivetta and Aarattu re the main highlights, drawing large crowds who witness these ceremonial events with reverence and enthusiasm.
Alongside the religious observances, the festival showcases a rich array of classical music and dance performances. Renowned artists perform traditional Kerala art forms such as Thiruvathira, Mohiniyattam, Ottan Thullal and Chakyar Kooth creating a perfect blend of spirituality and cultural heritage. Evening performances include music concerts, instrumental recitals and devotional song presentations that enrich the overall experience for devotees and art enthusiasts alike.
The Utsavam also emphasizes community participation with devotees offering Pushpanjali, rice, turmeric and other traditional offerings to the deity.
