This is one of the most popular Bala Subramanya Swamy Temple in Kerala, where Subramanyan is considered as a young boy. This temple enshrines Lord Subramanya (Lord Muruga) as the main deity. Lord Shiva, Lord Ganapathy, Annadu Shastha, Goddess Yakshi Amma, Naga Raja, , Sreekrishnan Althara and Brahma Rakshas are the other deities worshipped in the temple complex. The temple holds two annual festival namely the Aaratu kaavadi mahotsavam and the Thaipooyam Mahotsavam. The 10days long festival commences with kodiyettom and ends with 'kaavadi and 'Arattu. The main event of the festival is Kavadi Aattam, a ritual dance carrying Kavadis.

The ten day festival starts with kodiyettam. Special poojas are performed on the festival days. Several cultural programmes are held as part of the festival. Highlights are Kathakali, Ottanthullal, etc. Samoohasadya is offered to the devotees daily in the afternoon. Pongala is a main offering on the eighth day by female devotees. Agnikavadi is the main ritual during the festival days. The festival comes to an end with the aarattu ceremony on the tenth day.
