The Prathista Varshika Dinam at Kariyam Devi Temple Trust in Sreekaryam, Trivandrum, is one of the most revered annual celebrations dedicated to the worship of Goddess Durga, drawing devotees from across the region.
This auspicious festival marks the anniversary of the consecration of the deity and is celebrated with great devotion, spiritual fervor and traditional rituals. The temple, under the care of the Kariyam Devi Temple Trust Trust becomes a vibrant center of religious activities, cultural events and communal harmony during the festival days.
The celebrations begin early in the morning with Laksha Archana, a sacred ritual in which thousands of repetitions of the deity’s name are chanted by devotees under the guidance of learned priests and spiritual leaders. This ritual is believed to bring spiritual purification, peace and prosperity to the devotees and their families. Following the Laksha Archana, the temple conducts Kalabhishekam, a special ceremonial bathing of the deity with sacred substances like milk, water, honey and sandal paste. This ritual symbolizes the sanctification and rejuvenation of the divine presence in the temple.
Later in the day, the Pushpa Abhishekam adds a colorful and fragrant element to the worship as devotees present flowers to the goddess invoking her blessings for health, wealth and spiritual well being. The festival also includes discourses on spiritual philosophy guided by eminent Acharyas giving devotees an opportunity to learn about the deeper aspects of devotion and Dharma.
