The Kaliyuttu Mahotsavam at Devikode Sree Bhadrakali Devi Temple in KanyaKumari is one of the most celebrated and vibrant temple festivals in Kerala dedicated to Goddess Bhadrakali, the fierce and protective mother deity.
This annual festival attracts devotees from across the state and beyond who gather to participate in the sacred rituals, cultural programs and traditional performances that highlight Kerala’s rich religious and artistic heritage.
The festival is marked by a series of elaborate poojas including the Punyaham Kalasha Pooja, Madhu Pooja and Akhanda Namajapam which are performed with devotion and grandeur in the main sanctum of the temple. These rituals are believed to bring prosperity, spiritual purification and blessings from the Goddess to the devotees.
One of the most anticipated aspects of the festival is the Thalappoli procession where women devotees carry traditional lamps in beautifully decorated plates accompanied by rhythmic drumming and folk music creating a mesmerizing and auspicious atmosphere.
In addition to the religious ceremonies, the festival showcases a wide array of cultural events such as Kaikottikali, Folk Dances, Children’s Art Performances and Mega Ganamelas which celebrate Kerala’s artistic traditions and engage the local community.
