കാളിയൂട്ട് മഹോത്സവം 2026 ഇടത്തറ ശ്രീ ഭദ്രകാളി ക്ഷേത്രം തിരുവനന്തപുരം | Kaliyoottu Mahotsavam 2026 Edathara Sree Bhadrakali Temple Trivandrum
The annual Kaliyoottu Mahotsavam at Edathara Sree Bhadrakali Temple is one of the most revered and vibrant Devi festivals celebrated in the southern part of Kerala. Deeply rooted in ancient temple traditions, this festival is dedicated to Sree Bhadrakali Amma, the powerful mother deity worshipped as the protector of the land and its people.
During this sacred period, the entire region around the temple comes alive with devotion, rituals and cultural expressions that reflect Kerala’s rich spiritual heritage.
The festival spans eight auspicious days and follows age old tantric and Vedic customs. Each day begins with early morning poojas, Ganapathi Homam and temple rituals that invoke divine blessings for peace, prosperity, and well-being. A major highlight of the celebration is Kaliyoottu, a traditional offering ritual symbolizing devotion, sacrifice and the nurturing power of the Goddess. Thousands of devotees gather with deep faith to witness and participate in these sacred ceremonies.
Community participation is at the heart of this festival. Pongala, one of the most significant rituals draws large numbers of women devotees who prepare sacred offerings seeking prosperity, family harmony, and fulfillment of prayers. Other important rituals such as Kuthiyottam, Thalappoli, Urul Nercha, and Vilakku Ezhunnallippu add to the spiritual intensity of the celebrations. The grand processions accompanied by traditional percussion ensembles, lamps and decorated umbrellas create a mesmerizing and divine atmosphere.
Cultural programs form an integral part of the Mahotsavam. Classical and folk art forms such as Bharatanatyam, Thiruvathira, Kaikottikali, Bhadrakali songs, bhajans and devotional music are performed by renowned artists and temple committees, making the evenings spiritually uplifting and culturally enriching. Special rituals like Devi Mahatmya Parayanam, Aishwarya Pooja, Gurusi and the concluding Aarattu ceremony further enhance the sanctity of the festival.
