Karthika Thirunal Mahotsavam at Sree Elampana Bhagavathi Temple in Thiruvananthapuram is a vibrant and spiritually uplifting annual festival dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathi. Celebrated with deep devotion and traditional grandeur, the festival reflects the rich temple heritage and cultural legacy of Kerala.
Devotees from Varkala and surrounding regions gather at the temple to seek the blessings of the Goddess during this auspicious occasion.
The Mahotsavam begins with the ceremonial Kodiyettam marking the formal commencement of the festivities. Each day is filled with sacred rituals, special poojas, homams and traditional temple ceremonies performed under the guidance of learned thantris and priests. The atmosphere becomes spiritually charged with Akhanda Nama Japam, Kalasha Poojas, Deeparadhana and the majestic Sreebali processions that carry the divine presence around the temple premises.
One of the highlights of the festival is Bhagavathi Seva where the Goddess is worshipped with lamps, flowers, and devotional offerings creating a divine and serene ambiance. The temple glows beautifully in the evening with rows of traditional oil lamps enhancing the spiritual experience for devotees.
Apart from the rituals, the festival is also known for its rich cultural programs. Classical dance performances, devotional music, Thottam Pattu and other traditional art forms add color and vibrancy to the celebrations. Renowned artists and local performers participate making the event both spiritually fulfilling and culturally enriching.
