The Kumbha Bharani Thirunal Mahotsavam at Kannamba Devi Temple in Trivandrum is one of the most vibrant and spiritually enriching festivals in Kerala. Held annually during the auspicious Bharani star in the Malayalam month of Kumbham, this festival attracts devotees from all over the state and beyond. Utsavam Pooram Kannamba Devi Temple Trivandrum Kerala The ten day celebration is a blend of devotion, tradition and cultural grandeur reflecting the deep-rooted heritage of the temple and its surrounding community. Each day of the festival is filled with a series of sacred rituals starting with early morning Abhishekam, Bhagavatha Parayanam and Usha Pooja accompanied by melodious chants and devotional music. Devotees actively participate in Thottampattu, a traditional folk song offering, and the Kuthiyottam ritual which is performed with great reverence. The temple premises come alive with the sound of Chenda melam, Panchavadyam, Nadhaswaram, and other classical Kerala instruments creating an electrifying spiritual atmosphere.

A key highlight of the festival is the Kettukazhcha where elaborately decorated Eduppu Kuthiras and other artistic structures are brought to the temple in a grand procession. Tulabharam where devotees offer commodities in proportion to their body weight as a mark of devotion draws a large number of participants each year. The festival also features spectacular cultural programs, including classical and folk dance performances, Thiruvathirakali, cinematic and digital Theyyam and musical concerts showcasing the artistic talents of local and regional performers. The Aarattu ceremony marks the conclusion of the festival with elephants, traditional ensembles and devotees accompanying the idol to the temple tank for ritual bathing. Throughout the festival, Annadanam is organized for hundreds of devotees reinforcing the spirit of sharing and service.
