Ashtabandha Kalasha Pooja is one of the most sacred and significant rituals performed in traditional Kerala temples and at the revered Sree Sarkara Devi Temple it is conducted with great devotion and spiritual importance.
This temple administered by the Travancore Devaswom Board, is one of the most prominent Devi temples in the region and attracts thousands of devotees seeking the blessings of Goddess Bhadrakali.
The Ashtabandha Kalasha Pooja is a special consecration ritual performed for the main idol of the temple. The term “Ashtabandham” refers to a sacred herbal paste made from eight natural ingredients that is used to firmly fix the idol to its pedestal. Over time, temples periodically perform this ritual to renew the divine energy of the deity and to strengthen the spiritual sanctity of the temple. The ritual is considered highly auspicious and is performed only after detailed Vedic procedures and tantric rituals conducted by experienced priests.
During the festival period, the temple becomes a vibrant center of spiritual activity. Several purification ceremonies and sacred rituals are conducted as part of the preparations for the main Kalasha Pooja. These include Shuddhi Kriyas, various Homams and special Kalasha Poojas where consecrated pots filled with holy water and herbs are worshipped through Vedic chants. These rituals are believed to purify the temple atmosphere and invoke divine energies.
Devotees participate in these ceremonies by offering special poojas and contributing to the ritual offerings.
