The main deity of the Vazhuthanamukal Sree Chamundi Temple is Goddess Chamundi, a fierce manifestation of the divine feminine energy, revered for her strength and protection. The Sree Chamundi Temple serves as a spiritual and cultural center for the local community, providing a place for worship, religious ceremonies, and cultural gatherings.

Chamundi is believed to be an incarnation of the goddess Parvati, the consort of Lord Shiva. According to Hindu mythology, she emerged to slay the demon brothers Chanda and Munda, who were powerful allies of the demon king Mahishasura. Hence, she is often depicted as a fierce warrior goddess who embodies the divine feminine energy and protects devotees from evil forces.
Festivals
The Temple has a number of festivals. The important ones are :
Ganapathi Homam
The primary purpose of the Ganapathi Homam is to seek the blessings of Lord Ganesha for the successful completion of any task or endeavor and to remove any obstacles or hurdles that may come in the way. It is also performed to gain wisdom, knowledge, and prosperity.
Pongala Mahotsavam
Devotees, mostly women, gather around the temple premises with their offerings of raw rice, jaggery, coconut, and other ingredients. They set up makeshift stoves using bricks or clay pots and cook the Pongala dish, which consists of rice, jaggery, coconut, ghee, and sometimes bananas.
