The presiding deity of the Sreedharamangalam Mahavishnu Temple is Lord Vishnu, who is worshipped in the form of a murti (idol) within the sanctum sanctorum of the temple. Vishnu is one of the principal deities in Hinduism, known as the preserver of the universe and one of the trinity of Hindu gods, along with Brahma and Shiva.
The idol of Lord Vishnu in the temple is usually depicted in a standing posture with four arms, holding a conch (shankha), a discus (chakra), a mace (gada), and a lotus flower (padma). This iconography symbolizes Vishnu's divine attributes and his role as the protector and sustainer of the universe.
Festivals
The Temple has a number of festivals. The important ones are :
Vishu
Vishu, celebrated during the Malayalam New Year in April, is a festival of prosperity and new beginnings. Devotees visit the temple to seek blessings for a prosperous year ahead. The day begins with the Vishukkani, an arrangement of auspicious items, which is viewed as the first thing in the morning for good luck.
Krishna Janmashtami
Lord Krishna, the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu. It is observed on the eighth day (Ashtami) of the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) in the Hindu month of Bhadrapada (August-September). Devotees fast, sing devotional songs, and engage in Krishna-centric activities.
