Parasuvaikkal Bhagavathy Temple Thiruvananthapuram

The Parasuvaikkal Bhagavathy Temple, situated in Parassala, Thiruvananthapuram district, Kerala, is dedicated to the worship of Goddess Durga.

The shrine houses a swayambhu shila, devoid of any specific form, where the goddess is revered. Legend has it that the divine presence of Devi chaithanyam was unearthed when a girl accidentally struck the shila with her sickle, causing blood to ooze out.

This discovery led to the establishment of the Parasuvaikkal Bhagavathy Temple. Alongside the main deity, the temple also venerates Upa Devatas such as Chempakamootil Bhagavathy, Ganapathy, and Nagam.

Festivals

The Temple has a number of festivals. The important ones are :

Annual Festival

The annual 10-day festival at the temple commences from the Karthika Nakshatra in the month of Meenam. The flag hoisting ceremony, known as kodiyettam, marks the beginning of the festivities on this auspicious day.

Thrikkarthika Maholsavam

During the Thrikkarthika Maholsavam at the Parasuvaikkal Bhagavathy Temple, devotees participate in various rituals and offerings, including Thrikkarthika Pongala, Navakam, Annadanam, and Pushpabhishekam. This festival is a time of fervent devotion and community spirit, as devotees come together to seek blessings and express gratitude to the goddess. The atmosphere is filled with religious fervor and joy as rituals are performed and offerings are made to honor Goddess Durga.
