The presiding deity locally addressed as Kochuthamburatty (“the little princess”) is a benign form of Bhagavathy/Bhadrakali, Kerala’s protective Mother Goddess. Village lore says the idol was once the household tutelary of a Nair chieftain’s ancestral manor and was later installed on community land close to the riverbank; daily worship follows the classic Kerala pattern of abhishekam, pushpanjali and deepa aradhana conducted by a hereditary priest. Although architecturally modest a square sreekovil under a tiled roof surrounded by coconut thatched sheds the temple is the social heart of Ayiroor’s eastern hamlets the managing committee runs free noon meals during festival season, sponsors literacy classes in the adjacent library hall and co‑ordinates riverbank clean ups after monsoon floods.
