According to belief, the temple was constructed by the workers who were involved in building the Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple, as a means of protection for their work tools.
The presiding deity of the temple is Goddess Devi, worshipped in a benign and peaceful form. The deity is depicted with four hands, holding a conch in the upper left hand and a discus in the upper right hand.
