Vidyarambham Kizhakkedath Parambu Temple Thrissur
The ceremony, deeply rooted in Kerala’s cultural traditions, is conducted on Vijayadashami, the concluding day of the Navaratri festival, believed to be the most favorable time to begin education.
On this day, devotees bring young children to the temple, where priests guide them in writing their first letters, traditionally starting with “Hari Sri Ganapathaye Namah” on a bed of rice or sand, using a golden ring or the tip of a finger. The ritual is performed before the deity, invoking blessings for wisdom, knowledge, and success in education. Lord Ganesha, as the remover of obstacles, and Goddess Saraswati, the embodiment of learning, are honored through special poojas and offerings.
The temple premises on Vidyarambham day are filled with the joy of families, devotional chants, and the soft hum of prayers for the bright future of the children. This event at Kizhakkedath Daivathum Parambu Temple is not only a spiritual initiation but also a celebration of Kerala’s timeless reverence for knowledge.
