വാഴാലിക്കാവ് വേല 2026 മുള്ളക്കാവ് ഭാഗവതി ക്ഷേത്രം തൃശ്ശൂര് | Vazhalikkavu Vela 2026 Mullakkavu Bagavathi Kshethram Thrissur
Vazhalikkavu Vela is one of the most vibrant and culturally rich temple festivals celebrated in Thrissur, Kerala. Organized annually by the Mullakkavu Bagavathi Kshethram, this festival is dedicated to Vazhalikkavu Amma, a manifestation of Goddess Chamundeshwari, who is revered for her protective and nurturing qualities. The festival is a grand display of devotion, community participation and Kerala’s unique traditional arts.
The celebrations span several days beginning with ceremonial rituals and preparations at the Mullakkavu Bagavathi Kshethram. Devotees from across the region gather at the temple to witness and take part in the poojas, homams and special offerings which include Ganapathi Homam, Ushapooja, Malar Nivedyam, Panchagavyam, Navakam, Abhishekam and Athazha Pooja. These rituals are meticulously conducted by priests and supported by devotees reflecting centuries of tradition and spiritual discipline.
One of the festival’s most spectacular features is the elephant procession. Decorated elephants accompanied by traditional percussion ensembles like Chenda Melam, Kurumkuzhal, and Kombu, lead the deity in a grand procession from Mullakkavu to Vazhalikkavu. The rhythmic beats, colorful decorations and the vibrant atmosphere captivate thousands of devotees and visitors.
In addition to religious rituals, the festival showcases Kerala’s rich cultural heritage through classical and folk performances including Kathakali, traditional dance, and musical performances by renowned local artists. The event also emphasizes community participation with families offering special par rituals such as Nelpar, Avilpar, Malarpar, Aripar and Sharkarappar to seek prosperity, health and protection from adversities.
