In 2026, Uthralikkavu Pooram will be celebrated on February 24, 2026, corresponding to the Malayalam date 1201 Kumbham 12. This Pooram is considered a symbol of Kerala’s traditional grandeur, combining devotion, music, elephants, and fireworks on a majestic scale.
ഉത്രാളിക്കാവ് പൂരം എങ്കക്കാട് ദേശം തൃശൂർ | Uthralikavu Pooram Enkakkad Desam Thrissur
The festival is organized by three main desams—Enkakkad, Wadakkanchery, and Chelakkara—of which Enkakkad Desam holds a significant and respected role. Each desam prepares months in advance, arranging elephants, percussion groups, and decorative parasols (muthukuda) to present their procession in the grandest manner. Enkakkad Desam, known for its disciplined presentation, spectacular elephant line-up, and richly crafted ornaments, contributes significantly to the beauty and reputation of the festival.
The day of Pooram features majestic elephant processions, energetic Panchavadyam and Melam, and the dazzling Kudamattam (umbrella display). The rhythmic beats of chenda and kombu fill the air, creating a spiritual and festive atmosphere. Devotees believe that witnessing the Pooram brings blessings, courage, and prosperity from the powerful goddess Kali.
One of the highlights of Uthralikkavu Pooram is the grand fireworks display, considered one of the finest in the Thrissur region. Thousands gather along the temple grounds and surrounding areas to witness the synchronized fireworks show that lights up the sky late into the night.
