Thiruvanchikkuzhi Sree Mahadeva Temple located in Painkulam village of Thrissur district, Kerala is one of the most revered Shiva temples in the region. Shivarathri Mahotsavam 2026 Thiruvanchikkuzhi Sree Mahadeva Temple Thrissur Every year, the temple hosts the grand Shivarathri Mahotsavam attracting devotees from across Kerala and beyond. The festival begins early in the morning with the opening of the Nadappura followed by Abhishekam the ritual bathing of Lord Shiva accompanied by Malar Nivedyam. Soon after, the Ganapati Homam is conducted to invoke the blessings of Lord Ganesha for the smooth conduct of the rituals. The morning session concludes with the temporary closing of the Nadappura around 11:00 AM.

In the evening, the temple reopens for the main Deepa Aradhana and Athazha Pooja, the offering of the evening meal to the deity. Devotees have the opportunity to partake in the prasadam which is prepared using materials offered at the temple from 12 to 14 February. A highlight of the festival is the Sopanam music performances that take place throughout the day beginning at 7:00 AM and later in the evening. Devotional compositions by noted musicians such as K.L.M. Suvardhan, Vasudevan Muthukurissi and Cherumukku Shyam Krishna enhance the spiritual atmosphere. Additionally, Kaikotti Kali, a traditional folk art form is performed offering devotees a glimpse of Kerala’s rich cultural heritage.
