The Pratishthadina Mahotsavam at Peringottukara Vishnu Temple is one of the most significant annual celebrations in Thrissur, Kerala attracting devotees from across the state. This festival commemorates the consecration of the temple deities and is marked by elaborate rituals, traditional ceremonies, and vibrant cultural activities that honor the divine presence of Lord Vishnu and other associated deities within the temple premises.
The festival is organized under the guidance of the temple priest and chief ritualist, Brahmashree Dr. Unni Swami ensuring that all sacred rites are performed with strict adherence to Vedic traditions.
The festivities commence in the early morning hours with the Ashtadravya Mahaganapati Havan, a ritual invoking Lord Ganesha for blessings and auspicious beginnings. Special attention is given to all temple deities: Mahaganapati, Dharmasastha, Subrahmanya Swami, Bhavaneshwari Devi and Lord Vishnu. Each deity receives specific ceremonial offerings including Navakalasha Maadala, Pancha Kalasha Maadala and the unique Ek Ksheer Kalasha Maadala for the guardian Brahmarakshas. These intricate rituals symbolize prosperity, protection and spiritual harmony for the devotees and the community.
A highlight of the festival is the Kalamezhuthu and Thottampattu where the floor is decorated with vibrant colored powders to create the divine image of Bhavaneshwari Devi. This ritual is accompanied by melodious traditional songs, invoking blessings for health, wealth and well being. Throughout the day, devotees participate in various poojas offer prayers and witness the temple adorned in festive grandeur. The festival also provides an opportunity for devotees to engage in spiritual discourse, receive prasad and partake in communal harmony.
