Machad Mamankam is one of the most anticipated and vibrant temple festivals in Thrissur, Kerala, celebrated at the revered Machad Thiruvanikavu Bhagavathy Temple. The festival for 2026 spans from February 13 to February 17 featuring a series of elaborate rituals, cultural programs and devotional offerings that reflect the rich heritage of Kerala’s temple traditions. The festivities begin with special poojas and Kalidal where the deity is ceremonially brought to the pandal accompanied by rhythmic melam performances and processions. Devotees gather in large numbers to witness the Kalam Ezhuthu and various offerings including Panakanji symbolizing communal harmony and devotion.
The evenings are marked with spectacular melams, Panchavadyam, and Thayambaka performances featuring renowned artists and local talents alike. Performances are led by prominent artists such as Kunisseri Aniyan Marar, Machad Manikandan, and others, creating a mesmerizing atmosphere of rhythmic beats and devotional music. The festival also showcases the traditional Poothan Thira rituals, highlighting Kerala’s unique folk art forms which draw large crowds and engage devotees in an immersive spiritual experience.
Special events include Mega Musical Nights, featuring celebrated playback singers like Vijay Yesudas adding a contemporary touch to the traditional celebrations.
