Sree Koodalmanikyam Thiruvutsavam is one of the most prominent and vibrant temple festivals in Kerala celebrated at the historic Koodalmanikyam Devaswom in Thrissur. This grand festival holds deep religious and cultural significance attracting thousands of devotees and tourists from across the state and beyond. The festival is dedicated to Lord Bharatha, a revered deity believed to bless devotees with prosperity, protection and spiritual well being.
The Koodalmanikyam Temple renowned for its unique architectural style and rich heritage becomes the epicenter of devotion, music, dance and traditional rituals during this period.
The festivities commence with Kodiyettam, the ceremonial flag hoisting which marks the official beginning of the celebrations. Throughout the festival, the temple premises resonate with the sounds of traditional instruments including chenda, maddalam and ilathalam creating an atmosphere of divine rhythm. Devotees participate in various poojas and offerings including elaborate Archana, Pushpanjali and Abhishekam expressing their devotion and seeking blessings.
Cultural programs form a major part of the Thiruvutsavam. Classical Kathakali and Mohiniyattam performances, devotional music concerts and folk art displays provide a spectacular showcase of Kerala’s rich artistic heritage. Special rituals like Valiyavilakku, the grand lamp ceremony and Pallivetta, the symbolic royal hunt ritual highlight the unique traditions of the temple. The festival concludes with Aarattu, the holy bath of the deity which attracts massive crowds and symbolizes purification and divine grace.
