തൃശ്ശൂരിലെ കക്കാട് മഹാഗണപതി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ആറാട്ടു ഉത്സവം മാർച്ച്-ഏപ്രിൽ മാസങ്ങളിൽ നടക്കുന്ന 8 ദിവസത്തെ മഹത്തായ വാർഷിക ഉത്സവമാണ്, പുണ്യ ചടങ്ങുകളും ഘോഷയാത്രകളും ഊർജ്ജസ്വലമായ സാംസ്കാരിക ആഘോഷങ്ങളും ഉൾപ്പെടുന്നു.

Mahaganapathi and Vettekaran are the Idols installed here. Both are Equally powerful and are given equal importance while performing poojas and offerings.The trunk of the Ganapathy is turned to the left
which is an important factor. This temple is one of the rare Mahaganapathy Temples in Kerala. This
temple is historically famous in Kerala as well.
With the blessings of Sree Mahaganapathy and
Vettekaran, the temple has become famous in the country. In 2002 the temple flag hoisting
(Dwajaprathishta) was performed. In 2003, Subdeities (Upadevathas) like Navagrahas, Nagas,
Dampathirakashas, Durga, Bhadrakali etc. were also installed. Famous and well known people are
liberally donating money and land to this temple. The festival in Kunnamkulam Kakkad Mahaganapathy
Temple is conducted so as to dedicate the divine presence of both the deities in that place. With the
blessing of Ganapathi, lives of most of the devotees are advancing successfully with their expectation.
Important offerings like Mahaganapathi Homam to remove all obstacles; Mangalya Pooja to clear away all
the obstacles in marriage, Santana Pooja for Children and for the fulfillment of desires. Elephant horn in
gold is offered in place of ivory. Other important offerings are Nirama/a Vettakaran Pattu, Udayasthamana
Pooja, Koottappam etc. Reading of (Vayana) Ramayana Navahayanjam, Bhagavathasapthaham,
Ganesha Puranam, Sivapuranam etc are also performed.

Festival (Utsavam) is celebrated every year starting with flag
Hoisting (Kodiyettam) on Thiruvathira Nakshathram in
Malayalam month of Meenam and concluding with the
Pallivetta on the seventh day. And the next day there will be
Arattu (eighth day). After Kodiyettu on the first day evening,
ritual processions are held in the temple premise, three
times a day (7am, 10am & 8pm) with one elephant and
Melam. Chakyarkooth Ottamthullal, Dance, Bhajans etc.
are performed during these eight days of temple festival.
Thayambaka, Keli etc are also performed in the evenings.
Seventh day night (7.30pm-9pm) is Pallivetta and Arattu
procession is on the last day (7.30am- 11.30am) with one
elephant and Panchavadyam/melam. Cultural programs like
Chakyar koothu, Classical dances etc are also staged
during the festival days. On next sunday after Arattu the
residents of Kakkad will celebrate Deshapooram. The
Prathishta Day (Prathishtadinam) is celebrated on the
Aswathi Nakshathram day of the Malayalam month
Kumbham. Food is distributed to devotees (Prasadaoottu)
during the festival days. Also there is Prasadaoottu in all
other special occasions.
