This temple holds a special significance as one of the four major Rama temples in Kerala. Unique to this temple is the rare idol of Lakshmana, a feature uncommon in Indian temples.The idol of Rama housed here is a swayambhu, meaning it is self-born without any human intervention, making it the only temple in Kerala with such an image. Crafted from a rare stone known as Pathalanjana Sila, the 5-foot-tall idol is accompanied by consecrated idols of Sri and Bhumi devis on either side.
Similarly, the idol of Lakshmana, also sculpted from Pathalanjana Sila, stands at 3 feet tall, adding to the temple's uniqueness and spiritual significance

Niramala
The Niramala competition, an annual event held at the Thiruvilwamala Vilwadrinatha Temple in Thrissur, takes place on the first Thursday of the Malayalam month of Kanni, usually in mid-September. Commencing at 5:30 am with the Ashtapadi, the event features a series of programs, including Nagaswaram, Melam, Seeveli, and Panchavadyam, serving as its main highlights. The festivities kick off with captivating performances of single and triple Thayambakas, followed by a majestic procession of caparisoned elephants. The celebrations draw to a close by Friday morning, marking the culmination of the vibrant event.
Ekadeshi
In the Malayalam month of Vrishchikam, the Thiruvilwamala Vilwadrinatha Temple celebrates Ekadeshi, a sacred occasion honoring Lord Rama and Lord Lakshmana. Devotees gather to observe fasting, offer prayers, and seek divine blessings, creating a spiritually charged atmosphere at the temple. The festival signifies a time of deep devotion and spiritual renewal, fostering unity and reverence among all who participate.
