Constructed in the Kerala style of architecture, it dates back to the Chera period. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, worshipped as Mahadeva, and his consort Parvathi, revered as Umadevi, the temple is renowned for its spiritual significance. Housing 33 sub-deities, the temple boasts the highest number of sub-deities in Kerala. The sanctum, housing the lingam form of the presiding deity, is accessed through a flagstaff adorned with images of Asthavidyesavara.
Additionally, the vimana features a sculpted image of Narasimha. During the Svati festival in July-August, the images of Sundarar and Ceramanperuman are brought to the temple from the Bhagavathi temple. Two temple tanks are situated within the temple's second precinct, adding to its sacred ambiance.

MahaShivaratri
Sivaratri at the Thiruvanchikulam Mahadeva Temple symbolizes the celestial union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, depicting the cosmic dance of creation, preservation, and destruction. Devotees observe this auspicious occasion with fasting, prayers, and vigil throughout the night, seeking blessings for spiritual enlightenment and liberation. The temple resonates with the divine energy as devotees immerse themselves in devotion and contemplation, experiencing the profound significance of Shivaratri in their spiritual journey.
