It's unique as both Lord Rama and Goddess Seeta share the same pedestal in the sanctum sanctorum, with Seeta's idol placed inward towards Rama's left.
The temple also features separate shrines for Lakshmana, Hanuman, with a 55 ft tall statue, Ayyappan, and Lord Shiva, making it a significant pilgrimage site with diverse deities worshipped by devotees.
Festivals
The Temple has a number of festivals. The important ones are :
Rama Navami
The Sreerama Navami day at Punkunnam Sree Seetharamaswamy Temple in Harinagar, Thrissur, reaches its peak with vibrant festivities. The morning begins with devotees contributing paddy known as 'para' at their doorstep, followed by a grand procession inside the temple premises with decorated elephants and a chariot. Elaborate rituals including Abhishekas to the main deity are performed, culminating in the Lord boarding a grandly crafted and maintained temple car for a majestic procession accompanied by music and performances, extending the celebration for about 4 hours.
Anjaneya Utsavam
At Punkunnam Sree Seetharamaswamy Temple, an exceptional abhishekam ceremony is dedicated to Anjaneya Swami, the evening procession of whom extends through the temple and village. The Anjaneya Utsavam festivities are marked by a subdued scale, reflecting the humility attributed to Ramadoota, Lord Hanuman, emphasizing the virtues embodied by his divine incarnation.
