The temple is believed to have been installed by Villwamangalam Swamiyar, a revered saint and scholar, and later taken care of by the Raja of Kollangode. Its exact age is not confirmed, but it is considered to be very old, carrying significant historical and cultural importance.
The main deity of the temple is Lord Varaha, the third incarnation of Lord Vishnu, along with Goddess Lakshmi. The deity is depicted in the rare form of Lakshmi Varaha, where Lord Vishnu's Varaha avatar is accompanied by the goddess of wealth and prosperity, Lakshmi Devi.
