Legend has it that sage Parashurama, an avatar of Vishnu, installed the idol of Lord Shiva at the south bank of the river Nila (Bharathappuzha), where the Kondazhy Temple stands today.
During the Chera rule in Kerala, the region was divided into eighteen tiers for administration, each headed by a major temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. The Tritam Tali Siva Temple is considered the central temple of the tree. It signifies the temple's historical and cultural significance in the socio-political landscape of ancient Kerala.
Festivals
The Temple has a number of festivals. The important ones are :
Maha Rudrabhishekam
Maha Rudrabhisheka is the most favourite pooja offered to Lord Shiva. Rudrabhishekam Puja is performed with the prescribed ingredients such as honey, curd ghee and milk with chants on the Sri Rudram. The puja wipes out all sins and purifies the atmosphere. It also removes all sorts of planetary doshams.
Navaratri
Navaratri usually falls in the Hindu lunar month of Ashwin (September/October), during the bright half of the lunar calendar. The festival culminates on the tenth day, known as Vijayadashami or Dussehra.
