The main deity, Vishnumaya, is believed to be the son of Lord Shiva and Parvathy Devi. According to the legend, Parvathy Devi disguised herself as Koolivaaka and gave birth to Vishnumaya. To ensure his protection, a baby buffalo was assigned to him.
