Vellamkudi Valipaadu is one of the most revered and traditional festivals celebrated at Thazhoor Bhagavathi Temple in Vallikkode, Vazhamuttam, Pathanamthitta. This annual event marks a significant cultural and spiritual occasion for devotees and the local community, bringing together families, temple authorities and devotees in a display of devotion and tradition.
The festival is organized under the collective efforts of the Vallikkode community, the temple management and supporting families highlighting the collaborative spirit and deep-rooted faith in the region.
The festivities for 2026 are scheduled to take place on Friday, 23 January, starting early in the morning with the traditional Pazhakula Ezhunnellathu procession. Devotees gather at Vallikkode Puthan Chanda Devaswam Office Junction from where the procession moves toward the temple creating a vibrant atmosphere filled with devotion, music and ceremonial rituals. From 11:00 AM onwards, the Madanuttu procession follows the traditional Vellamkudi route, drawing participants from nearby areas who come to witness and take part in the sacred proceedings.
The evening rituals hold special significance culminating at the Yakshi Ambalam within the temple premises. Various ceremonial offerings, including Wall and Chilambu are performed as part of the spiritual observances. While the rituals continue late into the night, it is important to note that women are not permitted entry for the nocturnal ceremonies adhering to longstanding temple customs.
