Rohini Mahotsavam at Thrikattoor Sree Mahavishnu Temple, Pathanamthitta is one of the most revered spiritual festivals in Kerala celebrated with deep devotion and grandeur at this historic temple. The festival honors Lord Mahavishnu and is closely associated with the sacred traditions of the region, blending spiritual practices, ritualistic ceremonies and cultural performances into a harmonious celebration of faith. The festival spans multiple days, during which the temple becomes the epicenter of devotional activities. Each day begins with the Palliyunarthal, the ceremonial opening of the sanctum followed by Nirmalya Darshanam allowing devotees to witness the sacred offerings and decorations of the deity. The festival features Ashtabhishekam, a ritual bathing of the idol with eight sacred substances accompanied by Harinama Keerthanam and Ganapathi Homam to invoke blessings and spiritual energy.

A unique aspect of the festival is the Garudavahanam procession where the deity is carried on the divine vehicle Garuda accompanied by the rhythmic beats of Chenda Melam, Panchavadyam and other traditional Kerala percussion ensembles. Alongside, various classical art forms like Mayura Nritham, Shiva-Parvati dance and Kalara performances bring vibrant cultural expression to the spiritual proceedings. Devotional recitations such as the Vishnu Sahasranama and Sampoorna Narayaneeyam are performed creating an atmosphere of profound devotion. The evenings are marked by lamp processions, floral offerings and Devasangeetham, a gathering of bhajan singers and musicians performing traditional devotional songs. The festival also includes community participation through ceremonial offerings ensuring that every devotee has the opportunity to be part of the celebrations.
