The Manpilavu Sri Siva Bhadra Temple in Pathanamthitta is renowned for its vibrant spiritual and cultural celebrations and the year 2026 marks the grand observance of several significant events including the Srimad Bhagavatha Sapthahayanajyam, Pooram Mahotsavam and Makara Pongala.

The Srimad Bhagavatha Sapthahayanajyam is a seven-day religious program dedicated to the recitation and explanation of the Bhagavata Purana, one of the most revered texts in Hinduism. This ritual is considered highly auspicious and is believed to bring spiritual growth, peace, and prosperity to those who participate or attend. Devotees gather in large numbers to listen to the discourses and immerse themselves in the divine stories of Lord Vishnu while priests perform daily poojas with meticulous care and devotion.
Parallel to the Sapthahayanajyam, the Pooram Mahotsavam showcases Kerala’s rich temple festival traditions including ceremonial processions, traditional percussion performances and vibrant cultural displays. The festival provides a platform for local artists to present classical dance forms like Thiruvathira and folk performances such as Kaikottikali. Nadhaswara concerts and music nights further enhance the festive atmosphere filling the temple precincts with melody and devotion.
Makara Pongala, celebrated towards the end of the festival, is a unique ritual predominantly observed by women where they prepare an offering of rice, jaggery and coconut in clay pots as a gesture of gratitude and devotion to the deity.
